Leslie Markle is the Curator for Public Art at Washington University in Saint Louis where he manages the University’s Art on Campus program. In his position, he is responsible for stewarding the commissioning process and managing site-specific, indoor, and outdoor art installations across the university’s Danforth Campus. To date, the Art on Campus program has installed artworks by Chakaia Booker, Ayşe Erkmen, Spencer Finch, Tom Friedman, Dan Graham, Katharina Grosse, Ann Hamilton, Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, and Jaume Plensa. Markle has served locally on the Airport Art Advisory committee for the St. Louis Lambert International Airport and nationally on the board of Public Art Dialogue, an affiliate organization of the College Art Association. His notable curated and co-curated exhibitions include Transformative Visions: Washington University’s East End, Then and Now, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Washington University in St. Louis (2018); PXSTL: Lots, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, St. Louis (2014); 3x3, Herron Galleries, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (2013); Long Beach Exposed, Expo Arts Center, Long Beach (2009); and Smithsonian Week 2008: Long Beach Paints By Numbers, Long Beach Renaissance Hotel (2008). His writing has been published in artUS, a publication of The Foundation for International Art Criticism, and in Artweek, and he has held faculty appointments at academic institutions, including Chapman University, and California State University Long Beach, among others.
