Inscription WU 747 • Black-glaze karchesion (or stemless cup) • Provenance: Gift of Halsey C. Ives • Shape and ornament: Thick, everted rim. Cup has two high-swung handles. The center of the cup interior has incised decoration composed of a circle surrounded by four stamped palmettes, surrounded by stamped ovolo and two circles. Molded ring base, grooved resting surface, reserved. Inner face of foot glazed, flat underside reserved with central dot and three concentric circles. • Dimensions and condition: Entire cup is covered in black glaze; spotty, shallow chips in glaze, especially around rim, interior, base, and peaks of handles. Some reddish, burnished areas on rim interior and exterior. One handle reattached.
